Job Vacancy For Senior Project Officer at Stakeholder Democracy Network

Stakeholder Democracy Network is an International non-governmental organization that helps facilitate community development from a rights-based perspective. SDN operates in the Niger Delta where it helps the communities affected by oil exploitation and the challenges of resource curse.  SDN has five pillar issues that represent significant long held grievances and acute problems that we are trying to resolve. These are: Access to Energy, Democratisation, Environment, Resilient Communities, and Resource Governance.

SDN is expecting to secure new projects in the near future and is searching for potential candidate who could work in the role below:

Job Title: Senior Project Officer

Location:
 Port Harcourt, Rivers

Job Purpose

  • The Senior Project Officer (s) reports to the Assistant Programme Manager.
  • To lead on the implementation of projects using SDN’s Project Management system that is designed to ensure that projects are effectively executed in accordance with donor requirements and SDN’s Programme Strategy and Operational Plans.

Duties
Strategy and Programme Development:

  • Take full ownership and responsibility for one of SDN’s functional pillars
  • External Relations and Communications:
  • Identify, build and leverage relationships that are key to promoting stability and development in the Niger Delta
  • Hold regular communication and networking with local partners, local and national institutions and external actors.
  • Contribute in developing appropriate strategies for advocacy with key SDN partners
  • Contribute to the SDN external communications process by writing articles for the website and email distribution
  • Design and implement project communications plans that feed the SDN external communications process
  • Assist in the development and implementation of SDN’s mission and vision in the Niger Delta
  • Assist with regular analysis of political and security developments and themes in the Niger Delta
  • Contribute to develop and deepen SDN’s understanding of its focus areas and methods
  • Contribute to internal and external discussions on stability and development in the Niger Delta
  • Programme Implementation:
  • Lead the process of planning, development and implementation of projects
  • Lead the development and implementation of research and data collection processes
  • Lead the analysis, review and final output process for all project reporting
  • Produce monthly internal reporting and present to management
  • Lead in organising and facilitating dialogue meetings, workshops and seminars with government representatives, civil society and other relevant project stakeholders
  • Deliver insightful project communications that feed the SDN external communications process
Fundraising:
  • Lead the funding application process from the initial development of concepts notes to full application submission
  • Identify and develop sources of funding that will complement SDN’s strategy and projects within the Niger Delta
Key Qualifications
Assessment of candidates will be based on proven experience and capacity with evidence of the following or equivalent experience as follows:

  • Proven ability to negotiate multiple relationships with various stakeholders and local partners
  • Demonstrated planning (including budgeting) and proposal writing skills
  • General knowledge of the political and socio-economic dynamics in the Niger Delta region is essential.
  • Excellent IT skills: word, excel and online communication skills;
  • Strong oral and written communications skills;
  • Post graduate degree in Social Sciences or related field
  • At least 3- 5 years’ experience in project management in the development sector is essential.
  • Donor reporting experience
  • Experience of managing teams delivering projects, a collaborative approach to team working and ability to coach and build the skills of team members
  • A proven track record of managing projects and/or project teams to deliver high quality projects which have resulted in positive outcomes for their target beneficiaries
We are looking for candidates with skills in one or more of the following areas:
  • Research and analysis
  • Capacity building (training and facilitation)
  • Social accountability approaches
  • Project management
  • Advocacy and campaigning
  • Community engagement, mediation and dialogue
And with technical knowledge in one or more of the following areas, preferably in the context of the Niger Delta:
  • Developing livelihoods and promoting economic diversification
  • Increasing access to (clean) energy
  • Analysing the actions and policy of government and the oil and gas industry
  • Protection of the environment
  • Promoting good governance
  • Promoting peace and ensuring human security
Remuneration
The remuneration (gross salary)  is NGN 200,000 - 280,000 monthly
